AN AVIATION ENTHUSIAST´S KIT COLLECTION
Matchbox Blog

25 March 2009

The only Matchbox kits I could think to add to my collection are seaplanes, purely civil aircraft and any prop which has the possibility to convert to a transport version like the Privateer (described here ) . But any kit from AMT or Revell based on the matchbox mould which keeps this provision will do as well.

Thanks to the excellent documentation with pictures in matchboxkits.org I already have identified the next candidate to search and buy : The Dornier Do 18 V-2/D-2/G-1 which can be built as as civil mailplane. (see backside of box , right) Superb !

I bought the REVELL reissue of the Matchbox Do-18 some years ago in a sale . It is still sealed. Hope it is not one of this kits which is in storage in the hard to access warehouse and I can have a check quickly if they also give the choice of versions .

I was not able to determine from the pictures supplied in matchboxkits.org if for the Privateer there was a common fuselage for all versions. In the meantime I found my own Privateer kit. An inspection shows it has indeed precarved windows which has to be punched out to create windows for the transport version.
